Battles playing ‘Wall Street’ inside of Paris City Hall.

Battles are a musical obsession of mine from 2004 to the current year of 2011. Think post-rock, post-trance, and probably one of the greatest living non-‘Neil Pert’ drummers in the world. The juxtaposition of their music inside the darkened baroque room is all sorts of the ‘finale of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey” leanings.

Sorry to get all Robert Christgau on the lazy blogger tip on you (my three known readers and the anonymous three tumblr subscribers), but albums like Battles’ latest album, ‘Gloss Drop’, are so rare in marvelous technical execution combined with a genuine fun experience.  The album makes me want to quit making music for the neanderthal level of fun playing bass brings me personally, but in a good way. That said, the song in this video, ‘Wall Street’, is really one of the more serious cuts on the album, but it really shines in this video.

Check out this link.  They have a video of Battles playing ‘Futura’ in the same space which is also excellent.
