I’ve had a lifetime of interest in dinosaurs. My aunt and uncle used to work on digs in Wyoming and South Dakota, including the infamous Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton nicknamed ‘Sue’ that was the center of a scandal. I have a few actual dinosaur fossils: mostly hadrosaur vertebrae. I still keep an eye on what developments are happening with all things ‘dinosaur’ from time to time, but I’ve always been amazed that so much of it is relegated to actual scientists and a sort of nerdy subculture.
I kind of grew up half-irritated by other kids lack of Dinosaur knowledge: I remember being 8 years old and having to explain that the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods spanned millions of years and evolutionary cycles so far apart that T-rex and Stegosaurus never met face to face.
So this comic, Dan Telfer, gets serious points by me: if we can have an air of superiority when discussing wine, metal bands, or soccer, then god damn it; we can talk about dinosaurs with an air of superiority.
